Lace Up!

Loop-de-Loop by Ween from season 2 episode 21 (‘Untied’) of ‘Spongebob Squarepants’. A nickelodeon series produced by Nicktoons and United Plankton Pictures.
Bunny Ears Tie

Bunny Ears Tie

Do you remember sitting to watch and learn how to tie your shoes for the first time? Do you remember how you learned or how long it took? It took Spongebob an entire episode

Even with songs, it took me days to learn methods like the “Bunny Ears” tie. However, no matter what method I used my laces always became untied.

Hickies Shoelaces

Hickies Shoelaces

Shoe tying has gotten easier and this problem can now be resolved with Hickies shoelaces, a elastic lacing system incorporating a tieless and aesthetic look. Though a little aesthetically awkward, the laces are reminiscent of all the different shoelaces you can see on the streets giving them a unique design. (To Learn More)

With Hickies, maybe Spongebob wouldn’t have needed to spend an episode on learning to tie his shoes and I would’ve spent less of my childhood with untied shoelaces.

Mini Sand Sculptures!

A moldable sand toy for children to design mini sand sculptures!

A moldable sand toy for children to design mini sand sculptures by WABA Fun

An easy to use sand toy for people to mold and shape!
Can you guess what it is?

 *Final Jeopardy theme music*

It’s a advertisement for a product called Kinetic Sand by WABA Fun. A toy for people to create simple sculptures; Kinetic Sand, also assists in fine motor, sensory, and cognitive development.

Was your guess right? Mine wasn’t

The overall concept sounds similar and reminds me of a mix of commercial jingles I frequently heard as a kid including:

“Moon Sand, Moon Sand, the sand that molds like dough!” – Moon Sand!

“Squeeze it, shape it, mold it, and then bounce it!” – Bounce Putty

“Stretch, mold, and shape into detail with no mess and it’ll never dry out!” – Skwooshi

“Build, sculpt, and create all underwater! Take it out of water and look its dry!” – Aqua Sand

To buy any of the following: Moon Sand!Bouncy Putty!Skwooshi!, and Aqua Sand!

With so many similar features, it’s safe to say that whichever product you own, they would all promote fun and help with relaxation.

The only obvious standout point between all the models is its brand-name and price. WABA Fun offers more of the product for less money giving it an edge on the competition.

And to that I say, that after a long day of classes and build up stress……. I NEEEEDD IT!

Necomimi Headset

Necomimi Brainwave Cat Ears by NeuroWear

Necomimi Brainwave Cat Ears by NeuroWear

A cat’s response to noise and/or motion can result in turned up ears. It is a behavioral characteristic that is suggestive of concentration.

Developed by Japanese firm Neurowear, these brainwave controlled cat ears capture that trait as they perk up and wiggle or droop and jiggle based on one’s mental state.

Perfect for parties and anime/manga conventions, these ears would be a great staple piece to cosplay and act as an anime character. Chi of Chobits? Yoru from Shugo Chara? Yuiko Hawatari from Loveless? The options would be endless!

For all the different outfits that could be spiced up with these ears though, I would just wear them by themselves to to be as cute as a cat.

Building your own Furniture

Lego Bricks (on the left) and the Metal gears (on the right)

Lego Bricks (left) and the Metal gears of an Erector Set (right)

I’m sure many can relate to a time when they dumped and sorted through the metal gears, beams, and wheels of an Erector set and/or the small, colorful, plastic blocks of a LEGO set. It was always a fun experience!

David Graas’ Build your own Furniture Designs brings back those memories and makes me believe those old gears and blocks were revamped and given practicality for adults today to decorate their homes.

I question how much time and effort would be needed for each project but nonetheless it would make a great statement piece once configured. Its creativity and uniqueness gives it a more artistic feel separating it from traditional DIY home projects like those of Ana White’s.

It just goes to show that construction should always contain a hint of personal flare!

My only hope is that stepping on a modular left on the floor won’t be as painful as stepping on a lego. 😛
